How could the text be read and interpreted differently by two different readers?
In news media, depending on the ideologies of the readers that read the text, this could greatly influence their interpretation of the text. For example, a person with a feminist ideology could interpret the purpose of this text to show the strength of women amongst men as through the given insight into the single-mothers who work for nearly twenty-four hours everyday to stay afloat. Whereas, someone in complete opposition of gender equality (such as radical menenists) would deem this article to be antagonistic towards the efforts of men in society as through the chosen examples of incompetent men in the text. Knowing this, the portrayal of single mothers within this article would render different reactions based on the stigma attached to them by different readers holding different midnsets which, in doing, grants insight as to how the ideological backgrounds of readers shows the multiple belief systems within a society.

If the text had been written in a different time or place or language or for a different audience, how and why might it differ?
In news media, articles written in a different time illustrate the evolution of social and cultural attitudes. In terms of the article, it would have taken a polar opposite stance on the subject of births outside of marriage anytime pre-1950s and 1940s as the public’s mindset during that time held on to more traditional values; therein, less liberal. As, instead of including the hard- work of the women to care for their children, it would likely oppose the women and either label them as renegades with the goal of alienating them or not even comment on these women through the sheer taboo nature of a single-mother during that time as dueo the narrow view of what a family unit should be composed of. The reason for this portrayal is because our society’s portrayal of news on any given platform is determined by what the public mindset is like; it predominantly accepts a generally-accepted way of thinking within a society and then reflects this within the words of which journalists write. As, after all, profit often overshadows a true depiction of news.

  1. Intro 1:
Your arguments are good, however I felt that you provided less of an introduction and more of an argument. It's a good argument, but you need to ease me into the essay. This means that it is a little more difficult to find a clear thesis statement, as it feels more like the body of your essay rather than the introduction. Otherwise, it's bueno.
    Intro 2:
I feel that you've taken on a more introductory format, but I still feel that you are rushing into your arguments too quickly. There should be more context given. Otherwise it works, you have everything needed to make a good intro, you just need to format it better! :)
